British High Commission, New Delhi
The B.H.C, New Delhi compound spreads over an area of 27 acres, was originally set up in 1950s. It is re-planned with a renewal program in 1990s.
The original separation between working, living, recreation & service areas is maintained. The compound core is re-planned, linking amenities with landscape. The Central public amenity areas are modified to create the green lung and it opens up vistas and links with the main residential blocks.
The challenging part was to execute the works, with a running mission. So a detailed phasing was worked out with alternate pedestrian and vehicular movement routes.
The pool area was also done in two phases, one for adults and the other for the children. It had to be surrounded with a 4’-0” high wall due to new security rules. So the wall was designed as a planter in parts and an open grill in the rest.
The new tennis courts designed are with all weather top surfaces, as part of Mughal greens. It also has other play facilities like cricket pitch, children’s play area etc. The mughal greens is also designed to hold large fairs and shows.
Use of mixed plants materials including palms, flowering shrubs and variegated ground covers give the compound a very rich look.
